Date Lines is 13 mixed media pieces (plus site-specific installation elements) exploring Star St.Germain’s failed adventures in the San Francisco dating scene. Star’s various suitors are represented as silhouettes, faceless testaments to all manner of sexy mistakes. The show is about finding hope amongst the most dismal of interactions–with hilarious results.

A tornado disguised as a girl, Star St.Germain has contributed comics to books like Comic Book Tattoo for Tori Amos/Image Comics, Strange Tales and Girl Comics for Marvel, and most recently, Womanthology for IDW. She plays cello and sings for several musical projects, launched ThisIsStar Jewelry, models, and co-hosts Destroy All Podcasts for Collection DX. For the month of April (AKA Portland’s official Comic Book Month), Sequential Art Gallery will feature pages from IDW’s critically-acclaimed series, “Memorial”, drawn by local artist Rich Ellis!

Written by Chris Roberson (iZombie), “Memorial” is the story of Em, a young woman with no memory of her past who finds her existence thrown into turmoil after she inherits a magical shop and a talking cat. Described by reviewers as “clean”, “detailed”, and “crisp”, Ellis beautifully illustrates Em’s journey from the real world location of Portland, Oregon to the shadowy fantasy realm that may hold the key to her past. In addition to the pages, Ellis will also be selling a limited edition “Memorial” print.

Before moving to Portland, Ellis earned his bachelors degree in sequential art from the Savannah College of Art and Design. He is presently a member of Periscope Studio, and has provided artwork for Marvel Comics, Th3rd World publishing, Microsoft/MNML, The Oregonian, Comic Foundry, Michael Curry Design, Harper, Walker/Bloomsbury UK, Red5Publishing, and the Willamette Week.

The works presented will include varied renderings of couplings, both romantic and lewd, and a collection of prints. This will also be the premier of Carolyn’s brand new pixel animation sequence, titled “Burn it Down (extended 3 minute cut)”.

Reception will be 6-10pm on First Thursday, February 2nd, with wine, beer, and snacks. You can also pick up a pair of the artist’s Zombie blood splatter panties, just in time for Valentine’s Day! Some content in this show may be considered “mature”. We’ll be offering pieces from the show as well as swag for sale on this website after the First Thursday opening.

Carolyn Main is an award winning animator and Internet authority on dick jokes (her words). The prolific artist is known for her cutting humor and flourish.
